Putting Our Pads Through Their Paces

Tribol’s year started the best way possible – a closed track, glorious sunshine, and a full day of hardcore testing for our flagship product range – our ColdForge Carbon Fibre CF-3 Brake Pads.

Supported by Hel Performance, Autotorque and Dream Automotive, we spent a full day putting our production pads through their paces on a mixture of track cars, including the ever-popular Toyota GR Yaris, the venerable Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X, and the latest Honda Civic Type R FL5.

The Results Speak for Themselves

Running over 300 laps between them on a specially set out, brake intensive course at the already brake heavy Pembrey Race Circuit, our mixture of professional drivers and amateur enthusiasts confirmed what we already knew at Tribol – this isn’t just another standard track pad – this is a game changer!

By pairing a track proven, semi-metallic compound with our highly insulating backplate, we experienced:

  • Zero fade (even with a 2-minute stop and go heat soak between stints!)
  • Highly consistent pedal feel
  • Braking with confidence up to 20ft later into high delta corners.

And that’s on top of saving 1kg of unsprung mass with a simple 5-minute brake pad swap when our drivers arrived at the track – lightweighting has never been easier!

Dr Sam Erland is the CEO and Co-founder of Tribol Braking. With over a decade of experience in the composites industry, Sam has worked across both aerospace and automotive sectors, specialising in the practical challenges of manufacturing advanced composite materials at scale.

His background sits at the intersection of materials engineering and real-world application – bridging the gap between what composites can do in theory and what they can deliver in demanding environments.

That focus ultimately led to the creation of Tribol Braking, where Sam applies his expertise to bringing high-performance composite solutions into braking systems – an area long dominated by conventional steel.
